From Drawing to Completion
The home was built in the 50’s (see before and after pictures below), and needed updating to accommodate a young couple and future children. There were two main challenges:
The angle and depth of the window alcove would have made a standard configuration of cabinets a waste of space. To maximize storage room and window access, the designer pushed the sink base into the alcove and centered it in front of the window, allowing for storage on either side.
A wall was going to be added where the refrigerator would go, which would close the area and cause traffic jams. However, the clients took the designer’s recommendation of adding an island to compensate for any storage space they would have gained from the wall, allowing the plan to stay open and more accessible.
